The news we’ve all been waiting for is here. Volkswagen debuted the new Golf 8. As always, Golf has similiar design cues with its predecessors. While next gen Golf has 5 different hybrid powertrains under its hood, it also has new tech inside. Let’s look at these new updates of the next gen Golf together. New Golf has decreased its drag coefficient to 0.275. On the front, new LED headlights greets us with interesting designs. Unfortunetly, new front bumper design is quite far from being intereting. Golf Mk8 has 4284 mm lenght, 1789 mm width and 1456 mm height. With that proportions, the new Golf’s wheelbase is now 2636 mm. Standart tires goes up to 17 inch diagram but you can get optional bigger tires with your new Golf. On the profile, new Golf has the traditional C pillar. With that, it is hard to say that rear design has new exciting things. While the spoiler design and pointy LED taillights are giving away the Volkswagen vibes, new exhaust tips differs between all trim levels. So which Volkswagen Group hatch do you think is more handsome? Skoda Scala? Seat Leon? 7th Gen Golf? Or the new Golf Mk 8? Golf 8 has a minimalist cabin design. We now have digital instrument panel accompanied with new touchscreen infotainment system. Below that, new thinner air ducts and new Porsche 911 lookalike automatic gearknob catches our attention. Physical buttons are things of the past. So new Golf now has digital buttons on its whole console. Also there are new HVAC control buttons which located on the left side of the driver. Cargo hold is still 380 L. Golf 8 has the Traveller Assist system which is allowing 15 seconds of autonomous driving up to 210 km/h speeds. You now have matrix LED light, adaptive chassis control system, We Connect Plus, -which allows you to control the systems with your smartphone- a head up display, three zoned automatic A/C and 400 W Harman Kardon audio system options to add your new Golf. Standart trim levels are renamed as Live and Style. Under the hood, Golf 8 uses 1.0 and 1.5 L TSI engines with output levels of 90 PS, 110 PS, 130 PS and 150 PS. Apart from the entry level option, all new powertrain options has 48 volt mild hybrid system. We still don’t know the technical details of GTI, GTI TSI and R models which will use the 2.0 TSI engine. On the diesel side, Golf 8 has 2.0 L turbodiesel engine option with power output of 115 PS and 150 PS options. Buyers can get the powerful unit with AWD option too. New and powerful GTD option will debut on following months. On the PHEV side -which Volkswagen calls it e-Hybrid- Golf has 1.4 TSI unit paired with an electric engine. This hybrid versions will be sold with 204 PS and 245 PS power output versions. Both of the versions will use a 13 kWh battery. You can get the new Golf with 6 speed manuel, 6 or 7 speed DCT transmission depending on the engine option. So that’s the new Golf. Did you like the next gen model?
