Hello everybody I’m Jared Percell with
MLive and we’re here to preview some great matchups for the football state
championships held at Ford Field this weekend. First off we’re going to talk
about division four. We have two great teams in this one. We have Detroit
Country day who’s been ranked number one by The Associated Press. Virtually all
season and we also have Grand Rapids Catholic Central who’s been here before,
their third time in four years. Catholic Central has a wide receiver named Jace
Williams who’s a big playmaker and Country Day has an explosive offense
with Ahlon Mitchell. I think it’s gonna come down to the defense in this one. I
like country days front line and I think it’s gonna be a close one. Country Day
takes it. Looking at division three we have a great matchup here that
everyone’s been looking forward to. We have east side versus west side, as River
Rouge represents the Detroit area and the Muskegon big Reds, the perennial
powerhouse comes over to Ford Field once again.
Muskegon of course has quarterback Cameron Martinez who’s one of the most
explosive players in the state and is committed to Ohio State. River Rouge
on the other hand might be able to give him a good game and I think they will
with running back DeAndre Bolley being able to run through defenses the way he
does. I think it’s gonna be a close game. However, Muskegon has too much offense
and they’re going to pull it out in a close one and they’re gonna win that
championship that they let slip through their fingers last year. Moving on to
division two. Another great matchup of Muskegon versus Detroit area. And there’s
gonna be a lot of great players to watch in this one as well.
Muskegon Moana Shores has a great quarterback in Caden Broersma but he
got hurt last game and it’s backup quarterback did the job for him. Will he be
back in the state championship? We will have to wait and see.
However Detroit King might just have too much firepower no matter who starts
for Mona shores at quarterback. Kings quarterback Dante Moore is only a
freshman but he has proven that he can lead this offense. When you have a
running back like Penny Boone who can barrel through defenses the way he does,
I feel like King is going to run away with this one and it’s gonna be a
multiple score win for the Crusaders. And in Division one an exciting matchup here
as two teams are looking to win a state championship for the first time. We have
Davison who has quarterback Brendan Sullivan, A dual-threat quarterback who
has been phenomenal all season. He’s been leading an offense thats been putting
up points more than most teams around the state and more than we’ve seen in
recent years. Brighton however is a great defensive team and their offense can
keep the ball out of Davison’s hands. I like how they gameplan for Belleville, a
team that many thought was going to go on to win the state championship in
Division one. However, after that upset I like Brighton’s chances to bring home
their first state championship. Thanks everybody for watching. I hope you
enjoyed these picks please let us know what you thought. Make sure you follow
all of MLive’s coverage at Mlive.com/highschoolsports as we provide full
