Why did you pick the Auburn golf facility for us to come hang out at today? I love golf. I know it’s supposed to be frustrating, but for me it’s relaxing. I think you should hit some shots too. But you can’t look. If I’m hitting shots, y’all can’t be like — Can we face the mirror and like watch you through the mirror? Yeah you’re smart. Yeah, they’re smart. I guess we can pull that off. You’ve made your presence here at Auburn known to many. Visiting various teams. Your social media presence has been there. I’ve seen you dancing with the women’s soccer team. How important is that interaction here at Auburn? To be able to interact with your student-athletes on a day-to-day basis? Well, so as a former student athlete I was a baseball player. And you know back in the late 90s people didn’t necessarily follow baseball or even care. So I didn’t see my athletic director around very much. And that’s no knock on him. But I wouldn’t have known that. And so I remember what it felt like as a student-athlete to have people come out and support you and I do the best I can. Because it made me feel so good, I want to do that for all of our student-athletes. So I try to be around, try to be engaging. You know I’m probably young enough to get some of the things that are going on but yet old enough and sometimes mature enough to help lead them to bigger and better things. I’m still a kid and I still like to have fun and just enjoy life. So when — in college when our coach ordered hats, he ordered my hat was the same as his 10-year-old son’s. So he ordered like the mini versions of our hats. I swear. I swear. That’s amazing. That’s terrible. Have you ever been curious to know what it’s like to be a race car driver? Absolutely. You have a need for speed? I kind do. Should we try and see how fast we can go on the golf cart? When you stepped foot on campus, what was it that you said ‘I’ve got to check this off my list and I’ve got to do it quick?’ Well I don’t know that it’s something I had to check off, it was more embracing. Embracing the Auburn family and the Auburn creed. And then understanding that we need to make sure that we have a national presence. What are some other hobbies that you enjoy? I don’t have any other hobbies. I’ll spend time with my family to the best of my ability. One of the things that’s important to understand is my wife is a saint. She is a supporter. I referenced her as CEO of Team Greene and she runs everything. I am not the boss at home. I appreciate her willingness to give up her career to be supportive of mine. OK rapid fire. Are you nervous? No. Rapid fire, we’re going to come at you with some questions. We’re gonna get turnt. That’s fine. We can do that. We can get lit. First job? First job? Working at a golf course in the kitchen. Woah! Ironic. First car. 1981 Toyota Corolla. What color? Black. Favorite video game? Super Mario Bros — oh, no, no, no. RBI Baseball. Favorite cartoon growing up? He-Man. What is your nickname? (laughs) I can’t answer that one. yes you can! I’ll go back to high school. They used to call me BBG for Big Booty Greene. I was a rather heavy kid before I hit a growth spurt. And so my butt would sit really high and they would call me BBG for Big Booty Greene. BBG! What? First thing your wife made you throw out when you got married? She didn’t have to make me throw out anything. The better question is what’s the first thing I threw out of hers when we got married. Maybe her Shawn Kemp poster. That’s great, that’s great. All right. Walk-up song in baseball? Oh this is embarrassing. You ask the most embarrassing questions. Gettin’ Jiggy With It, Will Smith. Stop. OK. Gettin’ Jiggy With It. Before you putt that ball I want to see your Gettin’ Jiggy With It dance. Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah. Uh. Gettin’ Jiggy With It. Yes! That’s great. So we’re about to walk into the wellness kitchen.I learned the student athletes call it “Welly” I’m pretty pumped about this, I hear this place has got some awesome food. It does. Is there a reason you skipped over the salad bar? I don’t even know what a salad bar is. I’ve never really seen a salad bar before. You don’t like salad bar? No I like the meat. Chili rubbed smoke turkey, a little bit of dirty rice. Oh, man down dude. This is bad scoopage. Epic fail. What are some other facilities that you have a future vision for that you hope to upgrade? Across all of athletics? We’re right across the street from the baseball stadium. I’m not picking on baseball because I played. But we have a real opportunity to make a better game day experience for our fans. We have plans to put permanent seating around softball. Thinking about swimming and diving, there’s opportunities to do some things to dress up that . Always looking at Jordan-Hare Stadium to make sure that we’re keeping that fan experience. One of the things I learned here is we have the best game day atmosphere in college football. I’ve never been to a game in Jordan-Hare Stadium. So this will be the first time I see it here in a little bit. The people of Auburn are incredibly warm and welcoming. And want you to love Auburn the way that they love Auburn. So it’s been an eye-opening experience for me and my family. And being the first African-American to have this role at Auburn and only the third in the SEC, I think, speaks volumes to Auburn University and how serious the university is about being progressive in our thought and in our actions. I can see why people want to retire here. I can see why this is the loveliest village on the plains. I’m all in.
