In the wheelchair tennis the Women’s Singles
Gold Medal match was an all-Dutch encounter between Jiske Griffioen and Aniek
van Koot. World number 1 and 2 respectively, Griffioen
and van Koot are good friends and also doubles partners, but despite that no quarter
was given in this match. Van Koot took the first set 6-3, but Griffioen
hit straight back, winning the second 6-1. That took the match to a deciding third set.
We join the action with Griffioen leading 5-4. The Men’s Doubles Final was a repeat of the
2016 Wimbledon Final, with Great Britain’s Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid up against
Nicolas Peifer and Stephane Houdet of France. On that occasion Hewett and Reid took the
title, but found the going much harder here, losing the first set 6-2 in just over half
an hour. Great Britain hit back in the second set,
coming through 6-4 That took the match to a third set. We pick
up the action with Peifer and Houdet leading 5-1 and on the cusp of claiming the Gold
medal.
