The final very few expected is here as Ashleigh
Barty and Marketa Vondrousova will face off for the 2019 French Open title. I’ll break down what both players need to
do in order to be successful and I’ll give my prediction of who I think will win, here
on GS Tennis News Today. Heading into Roland Garros, Ashleigh Barty
was 4-2 during the clay season and actually withdrew from Strasbourg due to a recurring
right arm injury. To reach the finals she first had to beat
two Americans in a row Jessie Pegula and Danielle Collins dropping 6 games in each match. She then easily dispatched of friend Andrea
Petkovic 63 61, and subsequently dropped her first set of the tournament against Serena
conqueror Sonya Kenin but recovered to win 6-0 in the third. After this she played Madison Keys and beat
her fairly handily 3 and 5. Her toughest test of all though was in the
semifinals where she faced yet another American Amanda Anisimova coming back from a set and
3-0 to take the next 12 of 18 games. Moving over to Marketa, she showed tremendous
promise in her entire clay season going 7 and 2 garnering a win over Simona Halep as
well. To make the final round of Roland Garros,
the czech woman first defeated Wang Yafan 64 63. She then beat Kerber conqueror Potapova beating
her easily 64 60. For the remainder of the tournament she would
face seeds defeating Suarez Navvaro, Sevastova, and Petra Martic all in straight sets. In the semifinal round she faced Great Britain’s
Jo Konta who would be her biggest test, but still managed to deny the british woman her
maiden Grand Slam final berth. For Barty to claim her first Grand Slam title
she will need to use the variety that she utilized effectively in all of her matches
this fortnight. She’ll also need to use her forehand as
a weapon to get Marketa out of position, similar to what Konta did with her backhand early
on. Lastly, I believe that she needs to focus
on getting a good start as the 19 year old does seem to be a slow starter. Getting an early lead can be extremely helpful
especially in a grand slam final. For Marketa to become the youngest slam winner
since Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2004, she herself needs to get an early start because as i mentioned
before, a late start especially in a slam final can be detrimental. I also believe that she should continue her
steady game style as Barty can become a bit erratic as shown in the first set of her Anisimova
match. The Aussie was up 5-0 with 2 set points but
let her opponent right back in the set due to costly errors at the wrong times. Lastly, the most important thing Marketa needs
to do is have fun. She’s only 19 and is definitely the underdog
in this match, so she should come into it somewhat relaxed and with less pressure than
her opponent. For my final match prediction I believe that
Ash Barty will defeat Marketa Vondrousova in 3 sets to claim her first grand slam title. Both players have showcased a tremendously
high level of tennis in these two weeks, but i feel that Barty due to her experience and
position will be the more successful player. I think this will go to three due to Barty
having lapses in the past, but I think she’ll bring it together to close it out and win
the 2019 Roland Garros Title. Do you agree with my prediction that Barty
will take the title, or do you believe that the teen has the game to pull off one of the
most shocking title runs of the decade? Leave your thoughts in the comment section

  1. One thing that I failed to mention is that this will be Marketa’s first match on Philippe Chatrier. It was reported that she had a difficult time with her serve while practicing this morning and this is by far the biggest tennis stadium she’s ever played in.

Barty has an advantage in this department as she played a match on the court this year vs Kenin.

  2. Hey everyone! She has done it, Ashley Barty is the winner of the singles women's Roland Garros champion. Congratulations. 6:1 6:3
