HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE OFFERING FREE TENNIS LESSONS AND CBS 2 JOY BENEDICT SHOWS US THIS VOLUNTEER ASSERT GAME CHANGER FOR KIDS WITH AUTISM. LESSONS. IT’S GREAT TO BE AROUND ADULTS THAT THEY’RE NOT NORMALLY AROUND TO TAKE DIRECTION AND FOR THEM TO LEARN A NEW SPORT. THEN HER AND HER TWIN SISTER ASHLEY BOTH HAVE AUTISM. THEY’VE HAD A LOT OF SERVICES, AND I WORKED HARD TO GET THEM. BUT THIS MOM DIDN’T HAVE TO FIGHT HARD FOR THIS ONE. IT’S CALL US ACING AUTISM, IT’S A NATIONAL PROGRAM IN 15 STATES AND BROUGHT TO LONG BEACH POLYTECHNIC HIGH SCHOOL THIS FALL. IT’S RUN BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. ALL VOLUNTEERS. I HAVE A COUPLE OF FAMILY MEMBERS THAT HAVE AUTISM, AND I JUST REALLY WANTED MY COMMUNITY TO GET INVOLVED. SO JASMINE ROBERTS ROUNDED UP THE POLYTENNIS TEAM, WHICH IS NOW SPENDING ITS SATURDAYS TEACHING TWO-HOUR-LONG CLASSES FOR CHILDREN LIKE LANA. I HAVE TO TAKE MY TIME AND CONCENTRATE. RIGHT NOW THESE GROUPS ARE HALFWAY THROUGH A GROUP OF A COURSE, BUT THEY PLAN TO START UP ONCE AGAIN IN JANUARY. SOMETHING THEY LOOK FORWARD TO AND IT’S GOOD EXERCISE.
