The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships draw
is out, and it features many of the big names in tennis such as Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori,
and Marin Cilic. Today we’ll be analyzing the draw, and I’ll
give my prediction of who I think will go all the way, here on GS Tennis News Today Top seed Kei Nishikori starts off his campaign
for his first title in the UAE against flashy frenchman Benoit Paire. Kei leads their head to head 5-2 with Paire’s
last win over Nishikori coming in 2015. 7 time champion Roger Federer starts his bid
for a 100th tour title against German Philip Kohlschreiber and leads their head to head
13 to none. Marin Cilic has an extremely tough first round
match as he will face off against Rotterdam Champion Gael Monfils. 4 seed Karen Khachanov also has a tricky opening
round matchup as he is set to face off against Nikoloz Basilashvili Other big names in this draw include Stefanos
Tsitpas who will play Aussie Matthew Ebden, Borna Coric who will play Mikhail Kukushkin,
Milos Raonic who will play Jan-Lennard Struff, and Daniil Medvedev who play face a qualifier. Should Kei get past his first two rounds,
he could face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Quarterfinals should he make that stage. I do believe that both will make the Quarterfinal
round and will face off against each other, and I believe Kei will win this match if it
does turn out to be played. The two have played only one time with that
win going to Nishikori last year in straight sets. The main reason why I believe Nishikori will
make it to the semifinal stage, is due to the fact that Stefanos is playing a tournament
as we speak in France for the Marsielle Open. By the time this match rolls around, I think
he’ll be too tired and gassed out to truly challenge Nishikori. Keep in mind, this will be Stefanos’ 4th
consecutive tournament with all four being in completely different countries, so that’s
a lot for someone to travel in the course of a month. I also believe that Gael Monfils and Daniil
Medvedev will play each other for their third straight tournament in a row in the Quarterfinal
round. Monfils leads the head to head against Cilic
3-0 and is also coming into Dubai with an ATP 500 title under his belt. Cilic hasn’t played a match since his 5
set loss to Roberto Bautista Agut in the Australian Open, and I believe he’ll be a bit rusty
considering he hasn’t had any match play in over a month
I believe the Daniil has a fairly easy route to the Quarterfinals as the highest ranked
opponent he’ll face to get there will be 48 in Matteo Berretini. Should Gael and Medeved meet, I believe Daniil
will take this one, mainly due to the fact that he just lost to Gael in Rotterdam, and
is hungry for revenge just as Gael was in Rotterdam. The third quarterfinal match I believe will
ensue, is a rematch of this years Doha final between Tomas Berdych and Roberto Bautista
Agut. Borna Coric and Tomas are projected to face
off in the second round, and I believe the latter will take that matchup judging by their
recent form. While Agut has the tough task of potentially
facing off against Khachanov, Karen hasn’t been continuing his good play from last year
and I don’t believe his game is where it needs to be in order to take out Agut. Should Agut and Berdych face off, I believe
Berdych will take it. I say this because Tomas is very motivated
and definitely wants to avenge his Doha finals loss. My last predicted quarterfinal matchup is
Milos Raonic against Roger Federer. Roger leads their head 2 head 11-3, with the
last Raonic win coming at Wimbledon in 2016 when Roger suffered with back problems. I believe Roger will take this match as this
matchup always seems to favor Roger due to their game styles. I also believe Federer is very motivated from
his Aussie Open loss to Tsitsipas and is looking to come back to the tour with vengeance. In the finals, I believe we’ll see Daniil
Medvedev and Roger Federer facing off. Daniil definently has the game to beat Nishikori
should they face in the semifinals, as he dispatched of him easily in the Tokyo final
last year. And, while Tomas does have a chance to take
out Roger, I don’t see it happening as he trails in their head 2 head 6-20 with his
last win coming 6 years ago in Dubai. Should Daniil and Roger face off, I believe
Roger will win the match in three sets. Although Daniil is playing some of the best
tennis of his life, and only seems to be improving, Roger is very comfortable in the final stage
of this particular tournament with a record 7 and 9 finals recoord in Dubai. The two have played twice before with their
best match coming in Shanghai last year with Roger scrapping out a 3 set victory. However, I believe Roger will have much more
information about Daniil should they meet again, and will be much better prepared to
take on the Russian. This was shown in their recent showdown in
the Basel Semifinals where Roger easily dispatched of Daniil in straight sets. With that being said, Daniil still has a decent
chance to win his second 500 title as Roger’s last loss in Dubai was to a Russian Evengy
Donksoy. Regardless if these predictions come true
or not the Dubai field is loaded with talent, so make sure you watch the opening round matches
starting Monday. Thats all for this video, and tell us, do
you agree with my Prediction that Roger and Daniil will make it to the finals. Leave your thoughts in the comments section
